BorregoModern.com Update
February 11th, 2009BorregoModern.com has been updated:
- William Kesling and the Borrego Springs Desert Club now has its own section in “The Design” - check out the picture circa 1948 of the Borrego landmark under construction.
-We’ve added a Media Section (not just for members of the Fourth and Fifth Estates) to showcase two period movies that were produced to promote Borrego Springs. Featured are: “Borrego Springs California” and “A New Way of Life” and both are amazing. The quality is a bit rough in places (these were faded 16mm films, projected on a screen, recorded onto VHS, VHS dub from master, VHS dub to DVD and finally to web). The original films have disappeared and we need to thank Sam Webb for having the foresite to realize that these were worth saving. Sam at one point worked for the Borrego Chamber of Commerce and found the old 16mm films on a shelf. He has, through the Borrego Springs Civic Foundation’s Annual Preservation Days, shown them to hundreds of Borrego school children. Sam was kind enough to provide a VHS copy to your editor who is pleased to make them available on the internet. In my Borrego research there are mentions of the films being shown on television stations around the country during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. “Borrego Springs California” was produced in 1957, and “A New Way of Life” early 1960’s. I am hoping that a less-faded copy of the original films will surface and I will be able to make a direct-digital version. If you run across one please let me know.
To view the films please use the Nav Bar “Media” and select the link to the film you wish to view below the viewer window.
